Mission Statement
Our mission is embodied in just these few words. JATM brings a greater awareness of Jewish history and culture through a medium that elicits a strong response — music!

Music is the universal language. Music is something we all respond to. JATM programming employs music as a medium to reach audiences. Asefa (the band) performs traditional and contemporary pieces from Morocco to the Ukraine, from America to Spain. Through music performance and ethnomusicology we can discover Jewish history and culture.

Our primary mission is to serve as cultural ambassadors to people of all ages and communities within and outside of the Jewish community. Our goal is to make Jewish history and culture come alive in an environment where participants will feel connected and inspired. Teens and college students are at an age of exploration in identity as individuals and as part of a greater community making JATM programming particularly vital for this age group.

Many Jews across America experience a disconnect from Jewish culture and Judaism. As adults we are faced with even greater challenges in keeping our youth motivated and involved. Every Jewish person must be well informed of our story so that it will always be told with accuracy. It is our responsibility to share this story with our children. JATM programming plants an important seed in our youth today that will come to flourish in the years ahead.

All programming is non-denominational, sharing this opportunity with everyone across the spectrum of Jewish observance. JATM reaches out to JCC adult programs, college programming via Hillel, Chabad houses, and other Student run organizations, and youth programming for day schools, camps, and synagogues.
